Dinner After Therapy

Emma forces Jake to name the difference between believing in love and practicing it.

INT. ITALIAN RESTAURANT - NIGHT

Low light. A cramped table for two. The kind of place where conversations either get louder or die.

EMMA and JAKE sit across from each other. The remains of their food between them.

A beat.

EMMA
The therapist asked if I believed in monogamy.

JAKE
And?

EMMA
I said I believe in choosing someone. Every day. Even when it's not the easy choice.

JAKE
That's not what she asked.

EMMA
That's what I meant.

Jake looks at her. Really looks.

JAKE
I don't know if I can do that.

A long pause.

EMMA
Then we should probably stop pretending we already are.
